Shekhar is a seasoned risk professional with over 21 years of broad experience across quantitative Risk Analysis, Portfolio Construction & Risk Advisory of cross-asset portfolios across global capital markets.
As the Chief Risk Officer at Premji Invest, Shekhar’s mandate is to build a comprehensive risk policy framework at PI. The framework encompasses the establishment of objectives, methodologies, and processes to ensure that risk exposure is minimized by relevant controls using appropriate Market and Credit Risk assessment tools. The Risk team contributes to all change processes that require Investment Risk considerations, ensuring a proper advice is formulated for the firm.
Prior to Premji Invest, Shekhar headed the risk management team for a Hong Kong-based multi-billion-dollar, endowment-style fund at the Hong Kong Jockey Club. He was responsible for the investment risk function, establishing the required risk management infrastructure, and ensuring risk monitoring and governance for multiple asset classes, such as public and private equity, fixed income, bonds and currency. His responsibilities included providing strategic inputs in portfolio construction across different product lines, specifically from a return and risk perspective.
Before HKJC, Shekhar had been the Head of Risk at Avanda Investment Management in Singapore. The firm is a multi-asset strategy fund with multi-billion dollars of AUM. Shekhar led the Risk Management team in managing financial risks in multi-asset portfolios including market risk, credit risk, counterparty, and liquidity risk. Prior to Avanda, Shekhar held senior risk positions at SGX and RiskMetrics.
Shekhar is a certified Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and a Financial Risk Manager (FRM). He holds Bachelors in Engineering from NIT, Jaipur and an MBA from IIM-Calcutta.
